How Habits Can be Changed

Since the arrival of computer technology, it has become a little easier to discuss that interesting and mysterious part of our minds known as the subconscious mind.  Did you know that in the field of hypnosis, the subconscious is considered our body's "organic computer"?   If that suggests to you that the subconscious mind will function according to its programming, you are right.

This is a good thing for many reasons.  It runs all the complicated bodily functions and processes –in short, everything our magnificent bodies need to continue living, and it does this automatically!

Habits, good and bad, healthy and unhealthy, are also stored in the subconscious mind.  They function robot-like, quite often without our conscious awareness.  We take for granted our good habits, like getting out of bed, brushing our teeth, driving our cars safely, and paying our bills.  However, we get annoyed at our bad habits, yet are often at a loss as to how to change or eliminate them.

Some habits are resistant to change based solely on a conscious desire and without involving the subconscious mind.  Have you told yourself you will eat only when you are actually hungry?  What happened?   Do you bite your fingernails yet wish you didn't?  If you smoke, have you ever gone out at odd hours to buy cigarettes?   Is there anything you do repeatedly that wastes your time yet you don't know what to do about it?  These situations are negative habits stored in the memory banks of the subconscious mind and they operate automatically.

With the guidance of a trained hypnotherapist, these habits can be changed for the better.  You can eliminate habits you would be happier not to keep.  You don't have to be stuck for the rest of your life with habits you don't want.

Since you are probably familiar with the idea that "nature abhors a vacuum", you may wonder what happens when you "delete" negativity or an undesirable habit.  This is a valid question.  It's reassuring to know that in the process of eliminating bad habits and negative ideas, you can develop a more positive attitude about yourself, increase your self-esteem, and be open to other desirable outcomes.  Therefore, the only "side effects" of using your mind in this way are good ones!
